The Town of Woodbridge Food Closet will be the recipients of a Town-wide food drive organized by Boy Scout Troops 63 with help from Troop 907 and Venture Crew 913.
The Scouts are participating in the annual nation-wide “Scouting for Food” food drive. Each November the Scouts, leaders and parents collect non-perishable food and hygiene items for Woodbridge Human Services.
The Food Drive consists of the Scouts distributing over 3,000 flyers to residents in Woodbridge on November 5. The following Saturday, November 12, the Scouts retrace their assigned routes to collect donations left in plastic bags by residents’ mailboxes. Between 9am and 12pm, residents may also deliver donations to the collection center at the Center School Gym (4 Meetinghouse Lane). Boy Scouts will be at the entrance to the collection center sorting donations and assisting with unloading vehicles. All donations are sorted and presented to Woodbridge Human Services’ Food Closet to benefit Woodbridge residents in need.
“I’d like to thank our local Boy Scouts and their families for taking the time and energy to collect these much-needed items for our local residents,” said First Selectman Ellen Scalettar.
To date this year, the Human Services department has made more than 60 donations to local families from the Food Closet.
The Human Services department is in need of canned goods, rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter, bakery mixes, tissues, lotion, hair products, soap, dental care, deodorant, feminine hygiene products and gift cards to grocery stores. All items should be placed in plastic bags and left near the mailbox for pick-up the morning of Nov. 12.
Last year the Boy Scouts collected, sorted and donated more than 1,600 pounds of food and toiletries thanks to the generosity of Woodbridge residents.
“This year our goal is to provide more than 2,000 pounds of food,” said Ben Inclima, Boy Scout Troop 63’s Scouting For Food Chair.
