Governor Lamont signed an executive order declaring Thursday, January 9, 2025, a Day of Remembrance in Connecticut in honor of the life and service of President Jimmy Carter.
The executive order requests Connecticut residents to participate in a statewide minute of silence on Thursday, January 9 at 10 am—the time that President Carter’s funeral is scheduled to commence at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
State and local government offices, schools, and higher education institutions are asked to observe the minute of silence by Governor Lamont.
Additionally, President Joe Biden declared January 9 a National Day of Mourning throughout the United States. Flags across the country will be lowered to half-staff for the traditional 30-day period following the death of a president or former president. Flags should be raised to full-staff at sunset on the evening of Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
