The Woodbridge Fire Department represents the Town of Woodbridge in a positive and professional manner and is at your service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  The department continues to replace, update, and add much needed equipment.  This ongoing program, combined with a comprehensive training program enables the department to better serve the town's fire, rescue and emergency needs.

The department has fifty plus volunteer members, who are certified in Fire Fighting I, II, Rapid Intervention, Haz-Mat and are Emergency Medical Technicians.  The department currently has two certified female fire fighters, ten drivers, and thirty-six interior fire fighters.

In January 2004, the Woodbridge Town Hall had two major sprinkler system malfunctions in the middle of the night resulting in floods and frozen pipes.  The Fire Department was instrumental in saving most of the computer equipment, files, and furniture by their fast response and dedication to detail.

The busiest days of the week are Wednesdays and Fridays and the busiest times of the day are 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.  The overall average response time is 8:47 minutes.

The office of the Fire Marshal is overseen by the Board of Fire Commissioners and receives its authority from the State of Connecticut.   The Fire Marshal is responsible for the enforcement of many of the sections found in Chapter 541 of the Connecticut General Statutes.  During fiscal year 03-04, the Fire Marshal conducted fire investigations; fire prevention classes; assembly inspections for large gathering places (i.e. places of worship, country clubs, community centers); inspections for health department license renewals; liquor license inspections; approved and issued permits for special activities (i.e. high school bonfires and fireworks displays); approved designs and inspected renovations for commercial and educational buildings; conducted annual inspections as required; observed commercial oil tank removals; conducted hazardous material inspections and inspected for certificates of occupancies.  The Fire Marshal is also required to complete at least ninety hours of continuing education over a three year period.

Residents are reminded to test smoke detectors on a regular basis and completely replace them every ten years.  If the detectors are battery operated, batteries should be changed when the clocks are changed in the spring and fall.  Homeowners are also encouraged to have their house number clearly displayed on their mailboxes for easy identification by fire and emergency vehicles.  Remember to have your hot water heater, boiler/furnace cleaned, checked and serviced at the beginning of every heating season by a qualified technician.  Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer.  Prevent death or serious injuries by installing a Carbon Monoxide detector on every level of your home.  FIRE PREVENTION IS EVERYONE'S CONCERN.

The department looks forward to a new firehouse to better serve the citizens of Woodbridge.
