AMITY REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 5 SCHOOL BOND REFERENDUM

Explanatory Text


A bond referendum will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 and voters are encouraged to participate.

The resolution on the ballot will read, “SHALL REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NUMBER 5 APPROPRIATION OF $2,065,000 AND AUTHORIZATION OF BONDS AND TEMPORARY NOTES IN THE SAME AMOUNT for various improvements at Amity Regional High School and Amity Middle School, Bethany Campus?”

The District seeks to bond the costs related to:

  1. Air handler replacements at Amity Regional High School that serve classrooms in A wing and in the kitchen area, and any related work at an estimated cost of $360,956.
  2. The replacement of the air handler units in  the middle gym at Amity Regional High School with full heating/cooling units, and any related work, at an estimated cost of $293,635.
  3. HVAC upgrades at Amity Middle School, Bethany Campus, and any related work, at an estimated cost of $189,909;
  4. Renovate a consumer science room at Amity Regional High School, and any related work, at an estimated cost of $200,000.
  5. Replace the tennis courts at Amity Regional High School, and any related work, at an estimated cost of $405,700.
  6. Partial Parking lot replacement at Amity Regional High School and any related costs, at an estimated cost of $350,000.
  7. Estimated financing and contingency cost estimated at a cost of $264,800.

A retro-commissioning project was completed to help prioritize the replacement of air handler units on an educated time schedule. The units’ lifecycle is the main criteria for prioritizing on the schedule.

HVAC upgrades at Amity Middle School, Bethany Campus are intended to improve the layout of the air diffusers in the classrooms and locker rooms to be more effective for thermal comfort and regulate the amount of outside air that is needed to keep a building’s air quality high.

The consumer science room was installed in 1995 and the planned upgrades are intended meet modern standards.

The tennis courts at Amity Regional High School have been routinely repaired and resurfaced.  The new courts will have a 10 year warranty.

Parking lot replacement at Amity Regional High School will be done in two phases.  Phase I is included in this project. The remaining sections will be replaced at a future date
